1993 AUDI 80 2.0 E AUTO IGNITION PROBLEM

Hello Everyone

I am new here !

Could any one please suggest what may be wrong with my car ?

I have owned it for 16 months, it's a lovely car, but have had problems when first starting the car for the first time during the day. This has been happening on and off for months now.

We have had a very cold winter here in London and at first I thought it might have something to do with cold temps. But we now have lovely warm weather here and I still have problems.

I have had a new battery put in and distributor and rotor have been recently replaced at the garage. It has also been serviced quite recently and I have rectified all the major problems at the garage. Total millage is now at 95,000.

Please give me a total idiots guide as to ignition problems in Audi 80's this age.

I am a woman (sorry to any ladies out there who know more about cars than I do !!), so please make it as non-technical as possible so that I have a vague idea what you are talking about :D

We have a friend who owns Audis and always fixes his own cars, so if you get too technical, I will just have to ask him to translate ! I am hoping he will be able to fix the problem for me without me spending loads of money.

I bought the car for £950 about 16 months ago, but do not really want to spend much more money on it. let's hope I can fix it cheaply.

Many thanks !

First check that the engine coolant temperature sensor and wiring is in working order. Have someone check the residual pressure, if you are loosing system pressure you will have a hard time starting. Last check the cold start injector if equipped with one since it provides extra fuel during start up.
