87 4000s - IT JUST QUIT!
 

driving home last night my trusty 87 audi 4000 just quit on me. At 65 mph the engine quit - I popped the clutch and got a couple of firings but that was it - engine still cranks but will not fire.

I do have fuel in the tank - checked that first, there is power to the fuel pump and the pump does "hum" so I assume its working. There is one thing that is different - normally when I would start the car, I would turn the key two clicks and there would be a buzzing sound for about 5 seconds and then would click the third position to engage the starter and start the car - now, there is no "buzz" - HELP?

The fuel pump may buzz but that does not mean it is pumping fuel ... the impeler of the fuel pump may have broken of the shaft .... disconnect a fuel line at the fuel filter and jump the fuel pump .... if the pump is pumping there sould be alot of fuel coming your way ... so be careful and don't smoke while doing this:)

Do you have a good spark? Easy to check.
