'89 100 Hood Release
My 1989 100 hood release cable appears to be broken (or at least it won't open the hood).
Any ideas on how to get the hood up to fix it? |
RE: '89 100 Hood Release
pair of grips on the cable and pull from the hood release handle will prove if the cable is broke next is from under the car front to release is via the cable if its broken their then it gets harder

Yes, I believe I'm at the "harder" part.
Pulling on the handle from inside the car moves the cable (it can be seen from the grill). So how do I get it open from underneath? |
RE: '89 100 Hood Release
if you can see the cable moving from the grill it isn't broken (pull it harder) then reset the grab on the cable outer from inside the hood

It appears to me that the "grab" may be disconnected. Is there a way to get around that?

RE: '89 100 Hood Release
remove the knee panel above the pedals or where ever the hood release is below and unbolt the handle mechanism you will see the cable then open the hood and rest it cable lock then the release handle cable

RE: '89 100 Hood Release
Ok, I pulled on the cable from inside and it unlatched the right side of the hood but not the left.
The cable now is quite loose, like it's broken. I'm reluctant to pull it too far. I did pull it inside and about an inch or two but pushed it back. I have not pushed down on the right side of the hood to relatch it. Heck, I understand you just fine. I thank you for the help. |
RE: '89 100 Hood Release
push the hood down the release it again but put a little more effort into it;) pull harder

RE: '89 100 Hood Release
grab the cable you think is broke (which I doubt) and pull it hard from under the hood remember you cant break something that isn't already broke
