90 100 Owner's manual

Anyone with a '90 100 2 wheel drive who has an owner's manual who can check it to see what the X'ed out engine on the computer display means, specifically?

I know it is supposed to be "Check Engine", but, what systems does it say it could be? Something as simple as Oxy Sensor, as the car is just turning 150 K?

Oil pressure is great, temps are great, after replacing thermostat.

Great car, nearly as good as my 85 Turbo 5000, better than my 87 5000 was, not as good as my 80 and 82 5000 diesels were, but I like diesels, just don't like shifting, anymore, and the diesel autos (I think they have them now ) are too expensive, as well as the fuel. When I drove them, diesel was cheaper, now it's more expensive. Guess if you aren't gonna burn enough of it, they'll just charge you more.

Cheers,

George

According to my service manual if the Auto-Check shows a symbol with an “X” that goes over a circle that looks like a “cartoon bomb” without the fuse, then one of your bulbs has burned out. The check engine light is separate and is a picture of an engine with a lightning bolt then it is emissions related.

RE: 90 100 Owner's manual

Offramp,

Guess what I found at the foreign car wrecker, who also repair them, today?

Asked to get an appointment for a diagnostic on the car, drew the symbol for the mechanic, said the same thing.

Went out to the car, he went to the driver's seat, pushed a button on the dash, told me the problem was fixed.

Week or so ago, a cop stopped me to tell me my taillight was burned out on one side. Drove down the road a little ways, stopped to check, found the right side light on the trunk had no socket, and blank light assembly. So, to make it look like it has no light in those spots, pulled the bulb out. Guess the warning has been coming up about that long

Guy today told me since 90, Audi puts a brighter than normal bulb in the left side, and the switch is to turn on what Audi calls a "Fog Light"!!

Why in the hell would they put it on one side only?

Any how, guess it isn't ready to blow up just yet.

Thanks for the reply, though, now I'll know if another bulb burns out.

BTW, the guy told me they had done repairs for a lady a while back, she got a ticket, raised Holy Hell with them, they showed her in the owner's manual it was designed that way, she beat the case.

Cheers,

George

RE: 90 100 Owner's manual

Rear fog lights are required in Europe and are usually found on the left side of the car. To this day Audi, Volvo and few others use a single rear fog light but Jaguar started using two. I find one good use for them is when you get a tailgater or someone with the high beams, just flip the switch and usually they get the message.

Offramp,

Thanks for the info.

Mechanic also told me some people wire in a second socket for the right side, as the fixture itself has a knockout for a second light.

Might do that, as I have a spare parts car to cannibalize.

At least be less inviting to cops.

Cheers,

George
