Default 93 Audi 90 Questions

Hey guy's I'm new to the boards, i am looking at picking up an 93 Audi 90CS from my brother in law, currently the water pump is leaking, or so it appears, there's so much jammed in there it's hard to tell wether it's the pump or maybe a hose or seal. Couple of questions, is there a good way to getting in there and trying to locate where the water is coming from, or is it best to let a shop do it? Also If it turns out to be the water pump i know the part itself isn't overly expensive, any ideas how much it would cost to have a shop put it in, i know shop rates are variable, but a rough idea would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

im guessing its the 2.8 12vV6 if so this link will help a lot
http://www.12v.org/

if its the pump they tent to leak more when the engine is off and standing, if its a hose it will leak more when its running while under pressure

Sorry about the lack of info, it is a 2.8 V6, that site is quite informative, i'll have to fill it up and run it.. I am just hoping there's not a crack in the block that water is leaking from.. that would spoil the day.. Any way of identifying a problem such as that with any ease?..

you need to remove the thecover under the engineto see whats going on under the car so nothing is that easy, check where the coolant is dripping like the front of the engine which would indicate the pump

Well i got the car home, it was a fun little cruise, it's going into the shop on Saturday to have the pump looked at to ensure that's where the leak is coming from. It's an automatic which is something i haven't driven in a while, i noticed i would give it a little gas, RPM's would go up and it would shift nice and smoothly on the way up, but it seemed to downshift a little roughly, not thudding into gears by any means just not as smooth as the acceleration.. brother in law said he hasn't flushed the tranny fluid in a while, not sure if that would make a huge difference or not..
