Audi 100 2.8 Water Pump Location?
 

Is the water pump on the 2.8 V6 located at the top of the engine, in front, driven by the accessory belt? I heard the water pump was driven by the timing belt but this must be for later models as from what I can see it's in front of the timing belt.
Last night the temp went quite high then dropped, thinking stuck thermostat.
Now there is a load rattling from the front top end, thinking it's the water pump. Sounds like plastic banging away.
Any thoughts?

Which engine type? AAH?
