Audi 80 2.0 Sport Saloon (Temp high)
Hi,
I have had an Audi 80 2.0 Sport Saloon 1990 for 7 years, 118.000 miles,
Have had no problems.
Now when I am in Traffic the temp gauge reaches the middle the water light flashes
on the dash, the fan works fine and is cooling the car.
I have changed the sensor for the fan and the sensor that is a part of engine management system.
The only parts left to change are, Temprature sensor/sender(the one that operates the temp gauge on dash) and water bottle sensor.
any help please,
Regards,
Richard

You are beating around the bush. The electrical sender and gauge would the last thing to check especially if the idiot light and gauge both indicate high temp.
1) Thermostat. Probably needs replacing.
2) Radiator. Check for corroded or dirty fins on the outside if you cannot see through the fins, it is dirty. If there are no fins… you need a new radiator. The core could be clogged restricting water flow.
3) Water pump. Check the belt to make sure it is tight. It might work while idling but slip at higher speeds. The impeller could be broken, very unlikely but possible.
4) Air in the system. A small pocket of air in the pump can prevent the water from being circulated.

Your temp gauge reaches the middle? like in between Cold and Hot? has the car actually over heated, or just the temp gauge flashing, if the temp gauge is just flashing, and you havent over heated I would start by checking to see if you have enough coolant in your reserver tank. I know if mine isnt on the top mark mine will go off.

I WILL TRY FILLING THR BOTTLE RIGHT UP, NUT I DONT EXPECT IT TO WORK.
THE TEMP GAUGE ONLT REACHES 12.00 OCLOCK AND JUST PAST IN TRAFFIC.
THE FAN IS WORKING O.K. SO THE CAR IS NOT OVERHEATING.
NORMAL DRIVING IS NOT A PROBLEM
