Audi 80 coupe idle/hesitation issues

Recently bought an audi coupe 1992 2.0e.
In the hot weather the idle seems fine, cold weather it either id
les around 500 nearly stalling or fluctuates up to 1500 rpm.
Second issue, when driving it feels hesitant on accelerating...is it possible both these issues are related?
Not very familiar with these
cars, hopefully someone is able to help, many thanks

there are lots and lots of threads about idle troubles on this and other forums which you should check out. idle issues more often than not are a sensor issue so first port of call is the lambda with a voltmeter.

these issues could be causing the hesitation with accelerating however if you fix the idling and the hesitation is still there, check your vacuum for any leaks as this was the cause of my vehicles hesitation.

Thanks for your reply,i found a couple of issues so far.
The pipe from the idle control valve was bodged with a different type of pipe and was also too close to the exhaust system causing it to shrink when hot.
Currently my car is having an exhaust leak fixed,it is blowing between the front downpipe and before the cat, guessing this would have a somewhat negative effect on my cars fuel consumption, and also affection the lamda sensor causing incorrect fuelling.
Hopefully the hesitation issue will be okay when i get it back :-)

on a positive note the car seems better after the blowing exhaust issue...
now for the bad news,it seems my clutch is on its way out,i was accelerating this morning on the way to work and the revs increased but the car speed didnt...in a way that explains some hesitation issues i have had recently, i arrived at work and there was slight burning smell.. :(
Whats a clutch change like to do on these cars?
Parts prices okay?
Not something i would want to undertake myself tbh
gutted really

how competent a mechanic are you? it will take some amount of confidence, i was under my cabriolet the other day and you will need to drop the crossmember to angle the gearbox out and remove the clutch. if you have ramps, tools and space i would do it yourself otherwise for ease and peace of mind i would get it done professionally.
i would reckon Audi would charge £800-£1000 for it
mainstream garage kwik fit etc £500-£800
local garage/clutch specialist £300-£500
if you can get a price with work guarantee for less than £500 take it.
if your feeling the challenge then clutch kit is best part of £50 and you may want to consider doing the clutch slave cylinder whilst your there as these have a tendency to fail in their later years!

Bit of luck recently, I had already rang around to get quotes most was 480 that was including slave change also, the average for just the clutch was around 300 pounds, my girlfriend has a mechanic it just so turns out he said he would do it 225 all in just clutch, result!
So need to order part today...clutch price approx 150 for my car inc vat, not the sort of job I would do in this cold weather plus don't have ramps...too big of a job for me rather get it done by someone else tbh

Just an update on current situation, the hesitaion issues gone,it was the clutch causing the issues, apparantly the release bearing was totally knakered, new clutch in and feels as light as a feather now :)
Got the car back and now the tracking is out, think due to the suspension being mucked about with due to the transmission being undone, unfortunatly the track rod ends are seized so i have bought some replacements along with topmounts which are also worn out.
It seems i will also need shocks all round as they are slightly leaky,so for my next question where can i get the cheapest shocks for my audi 80 coupe 1992 2 litre,so far best price i have is 37.48 plus vat from camberley auto factors.
I did see some rear shocks on ebay for around 25 pounds for a pair, although it did seem a bit cheap so want to be cautious!
many thanks
