cv joint kit vs axle shaft
hi guys...have an 88 audi 90 5 banger
needs front outer cv joint....
now i have found axle shafts that seem to have all the parts needed for 65-70 dollars a piece....and cv joint kits for 135.00...
a little confused...does the axle shaft not have the complete cv joint (only the axle side?)
also think i need the abs sensor...some cv joint kits claim to inlude the sensor...but the sensor sold separately is about 168.00
any help would be appreciated

RE: cv joint kit vs axle shaft
The complete axle assemblies are usually rebuild (don't be scared). while the CV joint kits are brand new. I personally would rather put in a rebuilt axle and save a s@#tload of money than have to go through removing the CV joint from the axle, and then knowing that the other end has X miles on it. Most of the rebuiltaxles come with a longer warranty anyways.

^^ IDK, getting that outer joint off took an AWFUL lot of banging, three grown men taking turns WHACKING-AWAY with various-sized hammers/mallets, and that was WITH teh axel off teh vehicle. I'm told there is some sort of tool for accomplishing that process much, much easier. maybe you should look into what it is and if you can buy/rent one...
