Electrical draw

I replaced my stereo about 2 months ago. About 3 weeks after I replaced it the battery didnt have enough power to crank the car over. The battery was only a yr old, it was under warranty so I had them test it and they said it was bad and didnt have enough cranking amps. Then 3 weeks later it happened again so I took it back in and had it tested and the first test said all charging systems were good and the battery was bad. But after he put a new battery in the car and ran a test he showed me that the test said bad alternator wiring.
He said it could was probally a draw in the system some where and I need to take it to a Electrical specialist.
To me it seems like it would have to do with the stereo, since this all started happening 3 weeks after it was installed.
Has anyone else had this problem afetr installing an aftermarket?
The batery is a Sears Die Hard International.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Or thoughts about this. Do you think its the stereo or something else?[>:]

RE: Electrical draw

Who wired your stereo? Many shops are clueless about the wiring of older VW's and Audi's. Older VW/Audi's don't have auxiliary or accessory position in the ignition key. On my old 4000S the supply to the radio was constant ON so if you forget to turn off the radio... get the charger out. If you have extra amplifiers and the power is hooked up to the same +12V your radio might be off but the amps are still drawing power. On my 100Q the radio works only through ignition ON, sucks if you ask me. If I sit in the car and want to listen to some tunes all other electronics have to be turned on, drawing power.

I wired the aftermarket in myself. ANd its not from the radio being left on. I listen to it to loud to leave the car and not notice its still on. It has a seperate powdr button so its not like i am not turning the knob far enough. And the only amps are the factory ones. To make verything work together I put a thing from crutchfield in . Someone told me this sounds like a ground somewhere. I will check for that. The weird thing is, is that it takes three to four weeks to drain the battery like this. I beleive if it was a constant draw the battery would always go dead.[:-]
