Oil Light on 1988/90

Hey

I got a question that i would love it if someone could give me an answer or a general direction. I just bought a 1988 Audi 90 and shes in amazing condition the interior is perfect same with the body and it only has 90,000kms on it. needless to say its my first audi and im pretty happy and excited. My first question is that my oil light was flashing while i was driving it even though i checked the levels which were good and the pressure was great..*gauge was working* any ideas? secondly the clutch pedal was vibrating...not grinding but a solid vibrating...im not sure what would cause this. If you have any answers for me that would be most appreciated!

Thanks Dave

I would go with bad seals in the transmission because someone ran it with low fluid and burnt um up. Is it an audible vibration or you just feel it? I am going worst case here. Does your shifter vibrate? Does the shifter try to pop out of gear/ when you drive it (movement)?

Why am I going worst case? Well because oil lights only come on for a few reasons, #1 bad sensor (even if the gauge is working), #2 someone is running it 2 quarts low which you checked, #3 your pump is gone and since you are still driving it, chances are your engine is too.

It is an 88 with 90K KM It was probably an old lady's car that she took to bingo. Never changed the transmission fluid a day in her life (since it never made the first trans service mileage) and Changed the oil every year or two when it reached 15000KM or what ever the manual suggests. Not meaning to bash if this is your grandma's car or something, but somethings need to get done regardless of whether the car gets driven.

To accurately measure oil pressure you have to use a calibrated mechanical or electrical gauge. The factory mounted gauge on the dash is not accurate especially after many years of service, the same goes for the low pressure switch, I have seen a few with a ruptured diaphragms.

The clutch pedal pulsation could be caused by warped pressure plate fingers, worn throw out bearing, worn pilot bearing, bent shaft, etc.
