Anyone have experience replacing an 95' Audi 90? My car started blasting cold air out of the heater yesterday, and the coolant boiled out of the resevior. I thing it is the t-stat and have no idea where it is located on this car, or the temperature setting for it. I live in NY.

Any help would really make my weekend.

me too, Its much easier to just do the whole Timing belt with it.

You have the V6 so it be eniugh for a weakend to do. all you need is parts. buy them before you start and prepare on tools.

check out my website for details on how to do it, if I wrote it down. any whoo, the only the big whoops is that the timing might take a while to do.

where exactly do you live? I migh be able to come by if in Brooklyn.

Damn that was not what I wanted to hear. I appreciate your help, is there any way I can replace the T-stat without having to remove the water pump and the timing belt? I am in a bind financially, but don't think my mechanic skills can handle replacing a timing chain.

Anyone know how much this would cost at a shop?

Replace water pump,
T-stat
timing belt
flush and replace the coolant.

a lot, I think that the 600 dolars in independedt and 1000 in a dealer.

The thermostat is right behinf the timing belt.
There is a way to replace the thrmostat without taking off the timing belt, however it a bit hard. actually you just stop short of taking off the pulley on the botom.

You have to release the serpanteen belt, then take off the serpanten tensioner, then release the timing belt, then unscrew two bolts of the thermostat housing then take it off and reverse the prociduare.

If engine is cold then it will take like 3 hours of work.

I say "if you come this close, finish it off." it can be substituted with him or her

THanks for your help man! I may go the independant shop route right now. My car is at my GF's house 20 miles away, and it is supposed to be super cold and snowy this weeek in Syracuse. I have no way to get it to my garage. I am just super hesitant to mess up the timing and have the car not run and ruin it more. Does a Haynes manual show how to do this with pictures, or I guess how did you know how to do this? I really appreciate your DIY, but do you know of any with pictures?

ah, haynes does not make any books for audi 90, you have to go through bentley.
I should have made pictures. However there are pictures all around us, go to like A4 forum and check out the timing belt changes topics, they all usually have pictures.

I might do pictures for it later on.

Just for reference. I have a 93 100 CS Quattro V6. I took my car to Firestone for a timing belt, water pump, and thermostat replacement yesterday. They told me that it would be $250 in labor and $350 in parts. Local pepboys told me that it would be 5 hours of labor for them.

hmm, that what it took me to do near less, and I had no power tools.

Parts where like 250 in total.
