Can (195/60 R15) tires be used on a Car which specified tire size is 195/60 R14?

It is a silly question... but i really want to know. R stands forthe wheel rim diameter, right? So it doesn't matter if width of tire and the tire's aspect ratio are correct, right?

And can i use 195/60 R15 on front and 195/60 R14 in rear?

nope you can't and even if you could by some bizzare way, new tires would go 4.3% slower. EX: going on tach 60MPH actually you will go 62.6MPH.
you could put 215/55/14, or 205/55/14 or 225/50/14 anyway check http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
