2001 Allroad, 170K Miles. Worth Fixing?
Looking for some feedack about potentially spending 4K or so to replace Torque Converter and probably timing belt/etc on a 2001 Allroad with 170K miles on it. Is this a reasonable expenditure? Anyone have experience with the 2.7T engine at these mileages? What else can go wrong? Thanks!
I think I would answer this by asking, what is your replacement vehicle cost? Throw $4K into the allroad, is still a lot less then a comparable vehicle, in terms of joy, practicality, etc. My understanding is the engine is pretty durable, but the other components, which you will be replacing, should give you another 50-70K in mileage.
I own a 2001 Allroad with 260,000 miles and it's stil going strong, slthough I did replace the Tip Trans at 176,000 miles. I think that if you've maintained the engine with regular oil and filter changes (every 5-6K), you can expect almost endless mileage from your 2.7T. Also, I am running on the original turbos and the car runs as well as the day I drove it off the lot.
In a nutshell, you will have to determine the condition of your engine and then make your decision. An AR lover, like me, would do anything, within reason, to keep my AR on the road. I've owned several Audi's and VW's, and I have to say that the A6 AR, is one of the best cars ever made. GO FOR IT!
