Can the Allroad really tow.
I just purchased a 2004 Alllroad 4.2 Tiptronic with the intension of occationally using it a as tow vehicle (race car and trailer). The total weight of will be just under 3500 pounds. I read in the newest issue of Quattro Quarterly (Ask Uncle John) that he does not recommend towing "at the limit". What advice do any of you have that have actually used your Allroad to do any towing?

RE: Can the Allroad really tow.
If you have the factory tow hitch installed it can pull just about anything. Ive got video of an allroad pulling a big rig around.

Auditech79, I've heard rumors that dealers no longer carry the factory hitches (I need to find one for my '01 allroad). Do you know if this is true?
Thanks. Brett |
RE: Can the Allroad really tow.
Curt makes a Class 2 hitch (Model 1166) for the Allroad. $129 or so. You can still get them on special order from dealerships but it is an extremely inconvenient, Euro-style hitch and it runs $800.

http://eurohitch.es/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=2 Euro hitch has the hidden hitches. If the weight of the trailer is close to the limit just make sure you have trailer brakes |
