Default MTM chipped ECU

ECU I have came out of Allroad 6 spd (same as mine).
Contacted MTM USA and asked how it can be 'married' to my car.
MTM USA contacted MTM Germany. Advised I have to by new chip at full price.

Since I am the legal owner of the product (purchased), has anyone tried to challenge MTM's 'lease' (that is what it boils down to) policy in US courts?

I would accept if they charge a 'fee' to make the change.

Giac for example (and likely others) offer to even UPGRADE an ECU for a FRACTION of the cost of new tune.
