New Recall for Audi Allroad (fuel tank rollover valve)
Found this online...
More than 68,000 all-wheel-drive MY 2001-2004 Audi A6 Quattro vehicles equipped with 2.7L, 2.8L, or 3.0L engines and MY 2001-2005 Audi Allroad Quattro vehicles equipped with 2.7L or 4.2L engines are being recalled due to a fault in the gas tank. In particular, the aging of the plastic material in the fuel tank rollover valve combined with bending stress from the aluminium ventilation line to the rollover valve nipple may lead to cracking of the nipple leading to a fuel leak. The recall is expected to begin on or before May 30, 2008 with Audi dealers either reinforcing the nipple on the rollover valve or repairing the cracking at the nipple. |

Maybe it keeps the gas from leaking out in the event the car rolls over. Always a plus

Called my local Audi dealer. They said there is no such recall (03 Allroad 2.7T)... Has anyone got a different answer from Audi?

I couldn't find a TSB, but here's an article with a link to the defect notification put out by the National Highway Traffic Safety Admin...

RE: New Recall for Audi Allroad (fuel tank rollover valve)
I got a recall notice in the mail fromAudi of America, this is what it says:
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Audi has decided that a defect, which relates to motor vehicle safety, exists in some 2001-2004 model year Audi A6 quattro vehicles and some model year 2001-205 allroad quattro vehicles. What is the issue? The aging of the plastic material in the fuel tank rollover valve-combined with bending stress ffom the aluminum ventilation line to the rollover valve nipple-may lead to cracking of the nipple. If this happens, a fuel leak may result. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source could lead to a vehicle fire. What Audi will do? To prevent or repaircracking at the nipple, we will reinforce the nipple on the rollover valve. |
RE: New Recall for Audi Allroad (fuel tank rollover valve)
Well, new to the forum, but I saw this sweet gem and decided to sign up and put my two cents in. Rollover valve. a plastic tube used for venting the tank one of MANY on the tank. I am a technician... currently. this is a big job. The rollover "nipple" on the tank is bonded to the tank. so when it has broken in the past we have replaced the gas tank most under warranty. under warranty the job pay 7-8 hours considering the rear diff and subframe need to be removed. the recall is that the rear drive shaft is removed the straps holding the gas tank loosened. drop the tank enough to place a Mold over the nipple then is filled with a 3m hardening gel. sounds easy? no still a 5+ hour job. What does it pay? 2 hours. on par with most 15k services.
Personally, I'm appalled at Audi for the "repair" in my opinion it is like the commercial with the inspector at hoover damn just putting his gum in a crack. The pay is not worth it. And since we have only seen very few gas tanks with this problem; we will see more because when the tank is moved or "dropped" it will more than likely crack the nipple even if it has not broken yet. I'll post up pictures tomorrow. |
