Thud from the rear when letting the clutch out
Hi all, Just bought my 1st Audi and think its awsome. Its a 109,000 miles audi allroad 2.7 T 6 speed manual.
Amazing how much car you get for your money. But there is a problem...
When changing gear and letting the clutch out there is a thud/bang from the rear. It can be avoided if I let it out very gently.. very gently... It may be linked but when I do a slow sharp turn say in a car park the back end feels wrong.. Its not happy. Could it be the diff between the front and back or the diff between the back two wheels. I had the mounts changed and it made it worse as I guess they have less give to them
Any ideas anyone. Anyone come accross anyting similar?
Many thanks
Jonnie

If its shifting correctly then the trans is probably ok, so you changed the tranny mounts but did you change the most important snub mount? Its the little mount that rides on the radiator housing on the bottom, if that isn't changed the tranny will flop back and forth like a fish.
Thanks for that, I am taking it to my local garage today who is going to investigate the whole problem. I will point this out to him. If that was the problem would this cause the unsettled back end tight turns. The rear tires are both worn more than the front ones and you can hear the tires, I guess skidding slightly when turning in a car park, this is what 1st made me thought it is one of the diffs. Any ideas. Much appriciate your advice. I dont want to start changing things until I source the problem.

You won't hear a thud from our differentials, we don't use u-joints like a chevy does, if your hearing a thud then most likely there is a faulty mount somewhere, maybe even a motor mount.
As for the tire wear it probably needs an alignment more than anything else, adjustable air suspension needs 4 wheel alignments every 2 years or so because they can change on you.

Ok. Sounds good this is where I am going to start. It should have gone to the garage yesterday but instead my ladies car has had to go instead. A honda breaking down! and its the imobiliser we think. Ok one last question for now
I have to as your a goldmine of usefull info. I took the audi to a big carpark yesterday and did some full lock turns left and right, the noise from the back is i guess a vibration that builds up. Any suggestions? What I am trying to get at is it related to the Thud?
Many thanks again from the UK audi owner
