I used to own a 2000 S4, which by the way was one of the most fun cars I've ever driven. I cracked the front pate cover and ordered a new one and had it painted Light Silver Metallic to match the car. I ended up moving to MD and had to mount a front plate. I figured I'd drill into the old one with the crack and save the brand new one for a rainy day. Well, the car has long been sold and I still have the plate cover. I'm selling it on ebay if anyone is interested:
