Uncut, blank Audi / VW roof rack carrier bar keys; $5 each
I have 2 uncut, blank keys for the OEM Audi and VW base carrier bars that fit on the roof racks of the Avants, VW wagons, SUVs, and the allroad. Blank keys of this style are not normally available in the US.
If you've lost the original keys that were provided with the carrier bars, you can fit the new key to the lock with a minimal amount of effort. To do so, the "barrel" lock on the carrier bars can be removed (I'll tell you how) and the blank key can be carefully cut to fit. It takes about an hour to cut one side of a key. Or bring the barrel lock to a locksmith and they'll cut the key to fit. In either case, once one side is properly cut, a locksmith can cut both sides of a second key, and then cut the second side of the first key. You'll need to find a locksmith who's willing to machine cut a steel key (most won't), but once you do, he'll charge next to nothing to cut each side.
The key profile is known as "EP". On the keys that originally came with the carrier bars there would have been the designation EPXXX - the Xs signifying the key code. The keys are doubled edged, meaning that you can insert the key into the lock either of two ways and the key will unlock the cylinder. Note, however, that only one edge of a key need be cut because the lock tumblers are only on one side.
The keys are $7 each, plus shipping
