2004 Audi A3 3.2 Quattro Timing Chain Stretched

Hi all,

My audi a3 is a bit lumpy in first and second gear and is coming up crankshaft sensor fault,
But when I took it to the local garage he said he thinks the timing chain is stretched causing the sensors to give the wrong readings.

Is it common for the chains to get stretched ?
There is no noises of the engine when ticking over , but my dual mass fly wheel is on its way out and is rattling sometimes.

Thanks

Chris

timing chains do not stretch. ever.
if the chains arent making any noise then theres nothing wrong with them.
id suspect the sensor first.
if your going to replace the clutch soon, might as well do the chains just incase.

also, i would strongly suggest staying away from that shop in the future

The timing chains do stretch despite the theory that they should outlast the engine. I believe there is a way of telling whether the chain has stretched using vagcom.
