3.2 gearbox and exhaust question

Im not sure if you can help me with the following:

1. The s-tronic gearbox 'clunks' sometimes when shifting from 3rd to 2nd when slowing down, is this normal?
2. the gearbox also seems to like changing very early in drive, 6th at 30mph!! The engine seems to be okay, no signs of juddering, but is this really normal?
3. the exhaust i have seems to have petrol left when turned off in both pipes most of the time.

Thanks!!!
its an A3 3.2 Quattro sportback s-tronic sport 06

Awesome a 3.2, is it much faster than the 2.0T?

It definitely keeps the gear very very high. I think this is on purpose for fuel economy. Try S mode.

i actually have driven the 2.0T quattro as a courtesy car aswell. The 2.0 is more responsive in drive mode, but the 3.2 is alot more powerful otherwise and accelerates very quickly with ease. The 3.2 also sounds alot better and the economy is about the same, probably due to the high gears in drive.
In S it does use alot lower gears and higher revs and rarely uses 6th even when going 60mph.
Do you know anything about the exhaust or the clunking?
thanks for the reply.

The exhaust is probably just water evaporation. what happens when you turn your car on is the muffler is cold and the water vapor from the exhaust gases condense on it. As it heats up this water should completely evaporate but if your not driving long enough to completely heat up the muffler you could still see steam coming out of the exhaust when you stop. It's not gas though.

Dunno about the clunking.

Okay thanks, i do use it alot on short journeys so thats probably it.
I will check out the clunking at a dealer, its a pretty soft one, not quite as harsh as others report. I shall report back on result.
Thanks for the help!

I suspect that the "clunking" is normal, at least in my experience. I normally use the manual mode for 80% or more of my driving. "Automatic" is reserved for traffic jams on the freeways or elsewhere.

My exhaust tips do get blackened, but I just wipe them off with a rag dampened with kerosene.

3 2 gearbox and exhaust question

I, will look into these to see how they are. have you ever jack your car up in your garage? I hope those tiles are strong enough for something like that. Also, how are they going to drain water off ?
