Hi

For some time now my A3 will lose power for a split second whilst accelerating, usually at just under 2000rpm. It was so quick it didn't really worry me until this evening when something different happened.

While accelerating in second gear the car completely lost power, the engine was still running but nothing was happening, it was as if I'd lifted my foot right off the pedal but I hadn't. I had the accelerator pedal right to the floor but the only way I could get power back again was if I released the accelerator pedal completely and put my foot back down again.

I didn't notice any warning lights on the dash at the time.

Do you think this could be a problem with the accelerator pedal?

I'm not too familiar with the description of "59 reg" is that a 2.0T or TDI? 8p is also a long time range of when the car could have been produced so it would be very helpful to narrow down the possibilities. Please let us know what year the car is and what engine - lastly if stick or automatic.

One thing to add: Were you driving for a long time when it happened (was the engine warm?) and how much gas was left in the tank?

Sorry the car was registered in Dec 2009. It's a 1.9TDIe, I was only driving the car on a short journey after a longer one so the engine was warm, tank was just I've 3/4 full. Gearbox is manual 5 speed.

 

In that case I'm not much help. I don't have much experience with TDI - so hopefully another member can jump in and provide assistance.

I know that VW/Audi had some issues with low pressure fuel pumps (the ones that sit in the tank) on the 8p but I have no idea if it affects the Diesel engines as well.

 

Ok, thanks for your help anyway. Got the car plugged into the computer which picked up a fault with the exhaust gas temp sensor. £150 for a new one and it didn't fix it at all. Engine management light comes on randomly, and the car will suddenly lose power randomly.
