A3 Rims & Wheels

A3 Rims & Wheels
Hey guys,
I want to buy an extra set of 17" rims and tires. The problem is that I don't quite get that 'offset' thing... So the stock rims are 7.5x17" with bolt patternd of 5x112 and offset of 52 (that's what the dealer told me). When I look and search for rims, I can find rims that have all the requirements but one (the offset is usually 42 or 45).... Any hints and ideas, please??
thanks

RE: A3 Rims & Wheels
Stock offset is actually 56mm. The stock wheels allow plenty of clearance, even if you move up to 235 tires or lower the car. The offset number used here is negative, and this means that the lower the number, the farther out the wheels. Also remember that an 8" wheel sticks out 6mm farther than a7.5" with the same offset.Generally on A3's, 43mm or so is as low as you want to go with 7.5 inch wheels, and 48 -50 offset is required for clearance on 8" wheels. Go to Tire Rack, look at wheels for A3. When you click on details, many of them tell you the offset.

RE: A3 Rims & Wheels
I run a set of Vรถxx Misano 17x8 rims, 45mm offset, running 235/45 Advan A046 tiresoff my Evo. No rubbing, but the wheels do stick out a little bit more than the stockers. Gives it a nice aggressive stance, IMO, though. Actually with the wider stance and stickier tires, the car now turns so well that I can get the low oil pressure warning light to come on during hard cornering.
