i hav a 1.8t on a 2000 plate that is smoking realy bad, its used a 1/2 ltr of oil in bout 15 mins i ha no visual leaks and a small bit of power loss? it smokes wen idleing but wen reved it is an emence amoount (filled my street in 30 secs and all was blind for 2 mins )how can i detect wats goin on b4 i go ahead and do head gasgit ?

 

It might be turbo or head gasket. If its the head gasket then you would see antifreeze on the dipstick or if you take the oil fill cover off. If its the turbo, then your car will run like crap and you wouldn't have any boost. If you have no oil in your antifreeze or antifreeze in you engine, then its the turbo. If otherwise then its the head gasket

 

but if it was the turbo if i had it running and puffin lots smoke and took of the front turbo to inlet pipe surley id see smoke in there but there is none obvoiusly the car cut out when removed ?

 

What colour is the smoke?

 

its seems white but i hav no coolent missing it stays on max but the oil is goin v fast ?

 

hi i took the turbo off n it was like a small river comin out wen i turn up side down so am thinkin it was the turbo ty for ur input was helpful
