Audi A3 electrical problem
howzit everyone...i'm driving a 2.0 fsi ambition
Its been a while since i've logged in, but hey.. its a good thing..
Electrical problem? ive had it all... draining battery?
a) check if you have a tracker installed.. normally after a couple of years
+/- 3 years you have to replace the tracker's battery, otherwhise it will start draining the main one.
B) it could be an earth leakage_ take your car in to an electrician to check the wiring
Other problems_ When driving say at 100 km's /h ur rev counter start bouncing up and down and your car start shaking, loose power competely to about 50 km's/h 4 eg. then suddenly there is power again. it can also coase all your indicators to stop functioniong. as your driving say 100 km/h your needles drop to zero and your wipers and lights go off until you stop, turn the ignition off and start it again...
WHAT TO CHECK_ a) what is you current mileage? maybe you need to replace your petrol filter. check if you have a earth leakage once again...
b) check your selenoids leading to yor sparkplugs. It could be that one of the is faulty, ul see that when your car is idling ur engin is shaking more that it should.
c) Take ur car to a dealership to see what the pressure is going to your engin, it could be that your engin is loosing pressure.
d) Check the connections of the pressure switch, maybe there is loose wiring or the plugs are coroded. replace if faulty.
e) It could even be your temperature sensor... ask audi technician to check it out...
Well.. this is some of the problems i had, not to mension the engin i had to replace twice and the fans, aircon compressors etc etc etc..
TILL LATER*

I think I have the same problem on my 2001 A3 1.6.
The battery is emptied in about 24hours. I've changed the battery twice, so that isn't the problem. I've had the alternator fully tested and it is absolutely fine. The current drain was also measured and that was found to be OK too. (around 25-30mA with car locked)
I started to do some further investigations and found that it is a current drain, but the action of disconnecting the battery (to put the multimeter in circuit) resets something and the drain disappears. The drain only comes back once the engine is started then stopped.
To confirm this, I did the following: After getting back from work on Friday I disconnected the -ve battery terminal for a couple of seconds then connected it again. The car then sat there all weekend and started perfectly on the Monday!
I did this again when I was out of the country for a month, and again the car started perfectly when I got back.
However, if I don't do the 'battery disconnect trick' the battery will still die within 24h.
So, the problem is reset by disconnecting & reconnecting the battery, and only comes back once the engine is started
.... still a mystery but perhaps one step closer.
Anyone else found any more info on the problem or have any other ideas?

I'm also experiencing the same problem with my 2000 A3 and have been scratching & pulling my hair (what's left of it at least) for weeks to no avail.
I'm gonna give this test a try to see if it applies to my car as well.
Thanks for your post Sam, and to others please do share with us what you've experienced & found out as well.
fyi, mine turned out to be the console. Think it was the immobiliser in the console. I used to disconnect the battery every night. Or you can disconnect the console and get the same result.
Still looking for somehwere to fix the console though.

How would you disconnect the console?
Right about now I don't care as long as it still runs and it doesn't take a hit on the wallet.
Wait mine doesn't have a computer type set up, when I purchased it it came with an aftermarket cd player which I took out since, now I don't even have a radio in the car.

Hi All,
Can anybody help me. My audi A3 3.2 has a problem where it keeps stalling, i KNOW THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE as it is an automatic but if i dont keep the revs above 1500 then it cuts out. This only happens occasionally not everytime I drive it. It also drains battery so fast and I have had 3 new batteries in 2 years.
I have had 4 different mechanics look at it and each one tells me something different.
Can any body tell me what the problems are?
Thanks Duane

Hi
I have a A3 1.4 tfsi s-tronic 59 reg. I have had my car for two years, after it has completed its first year it started having a number of problems. I have been having a battery problem with my car. My battery drains out completely that I couldn't use my remote key to unlock the car. I had to call RAC out to have a look at the car and they re-charged my battery for 45mins and then the car started but when we took it for a drive it was acting very slugish. The next week I had the same problem with my battery and it wouldn't start. I had to call RAC out again and they re-charged my battery again for 30mins. The car started after the re-charge, the RAC guy then did a diagnostics test on the car and found a fault on my car which was related with a relay letting current flow when the engine is switched off. The RAC guy took my car straight to the dealer and they have had my car for a few days and they have said the car will remain with them for a week.
I will update once I hear more information or when I get my car back.
If anyone is having the same problem and I would like to have some advice on what to do.
