Default Audi A3 Quattro TDi 170 MPG!

Hi people

Just traded in my A3 TDi sport 140 DSG for an A3 170 TDi s-line quarttro and i can't believe how much more Diesel its using!

In my old 2005 A3 TDi DSG 140 i would get around 450 miles from a tank full. I am now nearly half way through my first tank of diesel in my new 170 quattro and have only done 118 miles and thats not driving it hard.

The onboard computer is telling me its done 31mpg on average over the last 7 days! and thats what i would call combined driving, am i really only going to get 250 miles from a full tank or could there be something wrong with this car. It is a year old and has not had first service yet.

In the manual my new car should be 44.1mpg combined and my old car was 50.4mpg and after just paying £69 for a tank full i'm a bit worried.

Obviously i will be contacting my dealer asap but just wanted to hear from anyone else out the with same car and what sort of mpg they get.

Cheers all hope for some feed back soon.

I have the 170 PS TDI, but not with quattro.

As for fuel consumption, it will get better as the engine is broken in, so not sure if it is normal. Undoubtedly, the higher output and quattro will use more, but nothing like 230 miles on a tank! Another thing that helped was chipping the car.

FWIW, the diesel engines take a very long time to break in and become fully efficient. I think it is something like 40k miles before it has its full compression and it is fully broken in. Hope that helps.

Cheers!

Quattros use a lot more fuel. The engine is spinning a lot more components. That applies to ALL full time four wheel drive systems, not just Audi's.

IMO they are talking rubbish, and there is something wrong with it. My brother gets better mpgs than that out of his A6 3.0 TDI (50% more engine capacity and some 300kgs heavier).

Yes the quattro will consume more fuel, but not that much more. Usually 10% or slightly more, certainly not 40% plus

Hi mate - found out what the problem was - it is the onboard computer - its miles out - around town getting 35 mpg - mixed 38/40 and on the motorway sitting at 70/80 getting 51mpg - done all this by filling the tank to the brim - dont think i will get the computer sorted as i recon it will cost a arm & a leg
thanks r1ray

Haven't seen an accurate computer yet! That's outstanding mileage for a Quattro!
