how does the a3 2.0T handle in the snow?

how does it handle on like icy roads?

 

That was from a snowboarding trip to Colorado last year. I was (still am) on all season Conti's that came on the car when I bought it. Car handled as well as could be expected on AS tires without chains. I would recommend getting some winter tires if you are going to be driving in a lot of snow. If you are going to be driving on ice.... spikes-spider

I had very little troublein the snow on the stock AS tires, but put on winter tiresif you're in a lot of snow and nothing really helps on ice, except the spike spiders. One thing I found when going up a hill was to turn off the ESP and the traction improved dramatically. I found that turning the ESP off in snow was the best. Just sharing some experiences.

 

The scariest driving experience of my life was driving about 5-6 miles in my A3 2.0T one snowy night on Conti Sport Contact II summer tires, tires that I otherwise think pretty highly of. When they say "summer tires do not use below 40 degrees", they mean it. I had to descenda 5 block long hill with so little traction the ABS wouldn't even pulse, then run out onto a busy parkway at a 'T' intersection. Thanks to alert approaching driver who realized I couldn't stop, and stopped for me, there was no accident. On the other hand, the traction control did let get around a LOT of other cars that had zero traction on the flat and slight uphill parts of the drive. This winter I am getting either Bridgestone RE-960s or the new Goodyear F1/AS.

Don't you care about your car??? Move to a warmer climate, or at least, buy your girl a garage. Poor thing. LOL

Like I said, that was on a snowboarding trip, it's supposed to be cold ....no garage at the condo. She get's pampered at home for being so good to me in not-so-pleasant environments. You should have seen her before I swept 5" of snow off

 

Well I have the Goodyear Eagle F1 performance tires.

How well do you think those will do?

 

I read this post and immediatly ran out to my car. I have Michellens and they are summer tires. Thought I had AS but forgot in Vegas you don't need AS so currently looking at snow tires for this winter considering it get damn as cold here in MT. So anyone used snow tires? any suggestions. I always want to give the best to my girl but if a $130 tire is just the same as a $300 tire I'll go $130. Any suggestions? Thanks

 

Dunlop Wintersports are superb winter tires. I had M2's on my BMW 325i and M3's on my wife's Mazda6 wagon. They are very good in snow and ice (Bridgestone Blizzak WS-50s are even better at that), but also wonderful on dry and merely wet roads, of which we have plenty during Puget Sound winters. Pretty quiet and decent ride, too. The WS-50's that we had for several years on a 1999 Passat wagon, however, were quite squirrely on not-snowy roads and wore pretty fast. The M2's had 4 winters on them (about 12,000 miles), and I think the new owner of that car will probably get at least one and maybe two more winters out of them. I plan to put Wintersport M3's on the A3. My wife actually prefers her M3's under all conditions to the OEM Michelins that came on the Mazda.
