when i start my car(when it does start!)it makes a loud harsh squeal for about 3 secs. i'm not the best with engines so haven't a clue and was going to ask a couple of mechanic friends but i've just tried to start it and it wont tick over. left it about 5 minutes and tried again...nothing. and again with some harsh stomping on the accelerator and i got a bite! had to keep reving till it started. any ideas?

 

If by tick over you mean wouldnt crank(engine does not turn) at all id say you have a starter going out. 1.8 engine?

 

A fuel-injected engine doesn't usually respond to "some harsh stomping on the accelerator" like old carbureted cars. The squealing is typically a slipping V-belt, which indicates: a worn or loose belt, or impending failure of the alternator or A/C compressor.

 

The problem your describing sounds like the air pressure sensor issue that many of the 2006/2007 A3's were having. It's a faulty sensor that needs to be replaced. Bring it to the Audi stealership and have them replace the sensor.

It happened to me at about 15,000 miles, dealer have my car for about 1 week, they had to order the sensor. It's been fine since they replaced the sensor.

 

i think i had the same problem,when i started my car it made a squel and it was very bad.I got my starter motor reconditioned and it works fine now.

 

when i start my car the coolant warning light comes on for about 10 seconds beeping and flashing.I have checked the coolant expansion tank and that is fine.please help.
