Car stumbles/rumbles with RPMS jumping on hard acceleration

Hello all, I have done a search but cannot find anything on this topic. I have been driving a 2008 A3 2.0t and have had no problems for 32k miles until now. Basically this started a couple of days ago, when i accelerate hard, either in a lower gear or higher gear, the car seems to jerk/stumble and I can hear a clunking sound from the engine bay. At the same time the RPM's jump quickly up and down in a 500 rpm range (happens at any rpms between 1-6k) At this point the car feels as though it has no power and if i keep holding the gas down the check engine light begins to blink. As soon as I let go of the gas or simply ease off the car continues as normal with no rumble and the check engine light stops blinking. I have been very careful to use only good quality gas and oil in the car.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Could be a variety of things; everything from a faulty 02 sensor to timing chain jump or dirty connectors to engine management.

In any case, it is specualtion but definitely sounds like driving it could do more harm than good. I'd have it checked with a Technician that has proper diagnostics before I drove it any more.
