Rate the following from fastest to slowest (1/4mile run)
350z (274 lbs torque, weight 3400 lbs)
M3 (262 lbs torque, weight 3400 lbs)
M5 (383 lbs torque, weight 4000 lbs)
G35 ( 270 lbs torque, weight 3500)
Chipped A3 2.0 (283 lb torque [APR measurments], weight 3260 lbs)
S4 (302 lbs torque, weight 3800 lbs)
RS4 (317 lbs torque, weight 3600?)

That's a trick question. Torque isn't the main determination of power in a 0-60mph run, that is mostly dependent on HP. Maybe a 50-70mph acceleration, but not a drag race.
I will take the challenge though.
4 - 350z (274 lbs torque, weight 3400 lbs)
3 - M3 (262 lbs torque, weight 3400 lbs)
1 - M5 (383 lbs torque, weight 4000 lbs)
7 - G35 ( 270 lbs torque, weight 3500)
5 - Chipped A3 2.0 (283 lb torque [APR measurments], weight 3260 lbs)
6 - S4 (302 lbs torque, weight 3800 lbs)
2 - RS4 (317 lbs torque, weight 3600?)
How did I do? PM me with the answer if you want to keep this thread going.

Chef, why do you suppose the chipped A3 would be faster than the S4? The math says so, but I wouldn't believe it unless I saw it!
If that's the case I'm calling in sick tomorrow and driving straight up to Revo in Greensboro!!!

Get your butt in a REVO tuned A3 and it might be more believable. This car is really fast with just the chip. REVO claims 260hp and 300lbs of torque with just a chip and I didn't think they were going to be able to live up to their claim. Now, I'm not so sure. The car has to be pretty darn close. T2T was spinning tires through the first three gears with his original APR Stage II chip and exhaust which dyno'd at 258hp and 307lbs of torque, I believe. My car can spin through the first three gears as well and runs very similiar. I haven't put it on a dyno, because I awaiting my GReddy exhaust first, but numbers have to be close. I think a race with a S4 v. a REVO chipped A3 would depend on the driver. Both cars are very close to the same specs. If anything, the A3 would win due to the loss of power through the Quattro in the S4. The S4 would handle better, but the A3 would win a street race.
Don't even get me started talking about my car. I'll be rambling here all day!
Cheers!

math is not hard
take weight
divide by peak *power* (yes, this is a better figure to use than torque. average torque at the WHEELS would be even better than both but that gets complicated)
sort in ascending order
then give the AWD cars about 4 tenths advantage in the 1/4 mile over the FWD cars if it is a standing start.
and then, if its a high speed higway run, give the edge to the cars with more power, no matter their weight, since pushing air out of the way is the main obstacle to acceleration.

Hey Chef,
All is good with your REVO chipped car but that front wheel spin has surley got to kill you! HP is all well and good but wheel spin is a killer. I had a gti previously and the spin annoyed me beyond belief. The s4 I had was a thing of beauty except for the gas milege. Now the 3.2 a3 I have is ok. Gas milege-poor, performance-adaquate, spin-zero. If there is one thing that I have learned from my s4, its that I do not want to mess with it's tuning if its a new car. Mine blew up and I was about to sue audi. They gave me all my money back and I bought the a3 3.2. If I had done any tuning with the s4 I would have had no right of recourse. That said a car blowing up and going on fire was highly unusual and is highly unlikely, but it did happen to me. The a3 is a nice car. Nothing like the s4 of course but I drive to work in chicago everyday, in trafflic. A3 will do for now. Any rain or snow, she'll cut thru it nicely! RS4 in a year or two...!!! Depends on the funds! Who cares about gas!
