Climate control failure

Climate control failure
I have a 2006 A3 2.0T, 6spd manual.
The other day the blower fan wasn't working, but the a/c and dash lights were all working. I pulled the 40 amp blower fuse and it didn't exactly look blown, but it didn't look right either (cloudy), so I replaced it. Now there are now climate control lights, no blower, no a/c at all! I put the old fuse back in, but of course that didn't do anything. The other associated fuses looked OK.
Any suggestions?

OK, got the controls back on, but the blower is still dead. I've replaced the 40amp fuse and put additional ones in all the adjacent empty slots just in case with no effect.
Is there a second fuse or relay that controls the blower fan?
