EGR Valve
Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum and wondered if you could give me some advice please.
I have an Audi A3 TDI Sportback 2001 model and engine management system light has flashed and diagnostic test confirms EGR valve problem. If I use diesel cleaning additives and higher rev driving can this help alleviate the problem and will garages clean them rather than replace them which looks like costing at least £600! Trying really hard to avoid a big bill for my car which I have always been very happy with and still love it. Also: will the light continue to flash until the diagnostic is reset even if the problem has been resolved? Would really appreciate your help. Thanks Ed |
flashing CEL = missfire
A bad EGR valve should cause a solid light not a flashing one (and some other issues, like rough idle, gas/diesel smell, etc). I would start with a full scan and see what other codes you have stored. Your EGR might still end up being bad but it could be something else and I would hate to see you replace parts that don't need to be replaced at this time. BTW £600 for this? Where did you go to get that kind of estimate? I see the part on ebay for under 100 which means you would be paying 500 in labor alone? |
