Locked out.

Hey all,

I'm new to the site, and as you'll be able to tell, not very clued up when it comes to cars. I decided to join the forum as I'm currently at my wits end, so any advice would be great.

I own an 3 door Audi A3 2.0tdi on a 53 plate and as my title indicates, I'm totally locked out. I have tried both key fobs with new batteries and neither works. Also for some reason I can't unlock the car manually from the drivers side, this is the first time I have noticed this as I've always used the fob.

I had the AA come out, they managed to jimmy the window open and hook the handle from inside but this didn't open the door - presumably the car is dead locked? He also checked to see if there was power coming from the battery which there was. Anyway after a couple of hours he couldn't get me in saying that it was probably something to do with the electrics and suggested that I get out locksmith. After talking to a couple of car specialists locksmiths I was getting the impression that it would be quite an expensive job.

What should be my next move? I have glass cover on my insurance policy so I asked what the cost would be to replace a window, they said £70 for the passenger window. If I was to put the window in and put the key in the ignition would the car then work or will everything be imobolised? Am I also right in saying that the alarm would go off?

I hope I've explained everything ok, sorry it dragged on a bit. Any help or ideas would be great.

Cheers.

I guess I would smash the window (if I couldn’t shimmy it down), then use the key in the ignition to start the car, if that does work the car is immobilised and there is a problem with the key. Id also try pressing the door locking switch and see if that works. If not pop the bonnet and disconnect and reconnect the battery. Basically once your in I would push and pull every switch I could and check if the passenger door opens too, if it does the locking mechanism on the drivers door is bust. If it does not open maybe the fuse has blown for the door locks.

This is all speculation, but that’s what id do.

Thanks

Luke

.

By the way, friend, what kind of insurance do you have? I just bought my first car and now I don't know what to choose so can you please give me an advice right now? I will appreciate any help from you. Besides, I also have heard a lot of positive reviews about https://www.americaninsurance.com, what can you tell me about them?
