MIL engine light

Hi, my 2006 a3 MIL engine light doesn't turn off after ignition/warm up
i've checked the manual and it says maybe the fuel cap is not closed fully
checked that and the engine light still won't turn off
anyone had similar problems before?

codes need to be accessed from the system to diagnose the problem vag.com or a hand held unit is required
