Hi all, I bought my 2007 A4 Avant Quattro with conv, tech, premium, and cold weather 3 months ago. My wife and I fight over it now so we are getting our second Audi. We are looking at the A3 and decided on the 2.0 vs. the 3.2 Quattro. I have the opportunity to buy3 A3's used at great prices. I am wondering what would you buy? All are 2.0T Automatic with DSG

2006 A3 in Grey with HID, Homelink, Opensky, premium package, Bose, SAT, and 20K miles
2007 A3 S-Line in silver. No sunroof, no Bose, no HID and 6K miles.
2007 A3 in Black with Open Sky, no HID, no Bose and 800 miles.

Allare comparable in price and both are in excellent condition. Let me know! I am going to make my decision in 2 or 3 days. Thanks!

The first questions is whether they are all DSG or MT - that could decide on one or another.
Do you want leather? The third one does not have it.
Do you want the Sunroof? that would eliminate one.
Do you want/need a sport suspension? Only one has it.

I am just trying to find big differences in order to make a quick and easy decision. Selecting car is so personal.

 

If they are all similarly priced, the one with 800 miles sure looks attractive to me! Many of the minor options (HID, satellite tuner, upgraded stereo, suspension) can be added later if you don't mind getting your hands a little dirty. Aside from that, I agree with olivierthat you should look at things that are permanent (transmission, OpenSky, leather). Good luck with your decision, I don't think you'll be disappointed with any of them!

 

Check the VIN #s for sure. One that the dealership offered me had 78 miles on it and 17 incidents. Which could have explained why the price was so low.

 

Another difference is that the steering effort can be adjusted (via VAG-COM or at a helpful dealership) on 2006 A3's but not on 2007A3's.

Re: BAMF's comments, OEM HID option (which produces much better illumination than aftermarket kit) cannot be added on without incurring significant expenses.

 

Yes, the cost is significant, but it can be done. The housings, bulbs, and ballasts, can all be bought for less than the $1500 that the option costs. Granted we're not pricing a new car, I'm just trying to provide a frame of reference.

If there are other parts involved that I'm not thinking of, please correct me. I mean no disrespect or sarcasm, I would genuinely like to know because I may upgrade my standard lights to HID in the future.

Open sky is a great feature my old truck didnt have a sun roof and I regretted it on every sunny day. Are all 3 of them 2.0? besides that think about why you like your A4 Avant Quattro so much and pick the A3 that most resembles that. Dont get me wrong they are two diffrent cars but you can still find similarities between the two. Good luck with your decision I know it is a tuff.

Seriously, if cars loose a lot of value at the start, the '06 is probably a better deal, since it has depreciated more and on top of that, the '08 models are already here (more or less). Looking at the images,I am assuming that the first 2 cars are privately owned but is the 3rd one from a dealer? Warranty might be another factor to consider.
