New A3 owner - Problems!

Hi every one, just been and bought an Audi A3 SE 1997 R reg, with 107,500 miles, this morning, test drove it did all the usual checks, climate control worked, lights, windows, suspension, checked for white mayonnaise subastance on oil cap, nothing wrong, the only problem was that the gear knob was missed and when you started the car you had to move the key slightly back for the electrics(window wipers, ABS, lights etc) to work, something to do with the spring?, now i drove it back to my house (80 miles away) and when i got off the motorway i pulled over, then noticed the car juddering, rocking a bit on its own then noticed the car was at about 100 Celcius, normal operating temperature is about 90 right? thought nothing of it, i pull up and have some food, come back to the car, now notice, car is overheating, fans are not working on the radiator, the climate control is constantly COLD! and the water(coolant?) is going down at a steady but unusual pace, now i'm really really worried!, any idea what this could be???? some people are saying head gasket but, this wouldnt stop the climate control and radiator fans to work would it? big thanks in advance!!!

Dont know how much of a help this will be but ill give it a shot, Just changed my temperature sensor and it took me a while to get it in sitting right so that it wasnt leaking out. You could check to see if its loose on yours? Its located down to the r/h Side of the engine ( Green Sensor) Dont know if this helps :confused::confused:
