Break - In periods and practices have changed. I asked the service manager when I picked up my audi...he said basically the car is ready to go, out of the box. Don't stand on the breaks for the first 500 miles....don't redline for the first 1000 miles....other than that, just drive it like you are going to drive it when it is broken in.

just read the title. but i'm gonna tell you that alot of peple say alot of different things about breakin in a car. some scientist did a study on it and found that its actually better for your car if you drive it hard for the beginning of its lifetime. it didnt used to be in the old days, but with the mterials used now, it is. this is argueed about alot though so im not saying i agree with it.

 

Ask him what sort of technical knowledge he got to get a position like "Service Manager" - I think the answer is "Null".
Just remember, it's YOUR car, so, be careful.

I think as long as you don’t slam your gas pedal to the ground at every light, you should be okay. And it’s easy to keep the RPM below 2500 in ‘D’ but I sure hope the Audi engineers thought about break-in period when they added ‘S’ in DSG. When DSG is running at ‘S’ mode, it shifts at around 4500 RPM and at times it would down swift to 5000 RPM if you hit the brake. Now with that said, I have a 3.2 DSG with almost all the options except premium leather and rear air bags. The car is so sweet and goes where you point it. I made a big mistake and let one of my friend test drive my car. He started playing with the pedal shift and down shifted to a point which the RPM top 6000 RPM. After that happened, he started telling me some of the guys in e90post (AKA BMW forum) have suggest during the break-in period, you should drive the car hard. This is because all engines must run to 6500 RPM for some duration of time after final engine completion. This is something BMW do to cert there engine, so I need to search Audi sites and see if they do something like this. Anyhow, I guess so much for that break-in period…

 

well of course u gotta be careful initially and have to drive at a certain maximum speed for a certain number of miles. u can speed up after that. for details check ur manual.
