Oil Pressure light & audible warning

I've an annoying problem with my 1997 A3. At about 3K revs the oil pressure light & audible warning comes on. Is there a pressure sensor hidden away in the sump (guessing) or could it simply be the wrong filter? I'd really appreciate some help. Thanks.

RE: Oil Pressure light & audible warning

Rich,

I had this problem, and tried a number of things to fix it (including changes oil pressure senders/switches). The thing that solved it in the end, was changing the oil - to the correct grade!!!

What has more than likely happed, is that you engine has broken down the viscosity of the oil, therefore stopping it from operating properly at most temperatures.

The oil you need is......

Castrol SLX Longlife 2 SAE 0W-30.

Change that 1st........im sure it will fix it.

PS (You can change it yourself.....its quite easy....if you need to know how.....holla back)

Hi

DreUK, could you post a "How to" for changing the oil, oil filter, air filter and plugs for a 1998 1.8T A3? I'm hoping to do the service at college on tues eve and can't find any service instructions anywhere! (there's a haynes manual out in April apparently, but the service is due now!)

cheerski
