Oil question?

RE: Oil question?
Oil for the 2.0T must meet VW standard 502 00; these are genereally 0w or 5w oils , some synthetic and some not. They'rea bithard to find out in the real world; though there are quite a few on VW's list, most of the American ones are European formula Quaker State, Pennzoil, Mobil 1,etc., that Pep boys doesn't carry. Aud and VW dealers generally keep the Castrol around that meets the specs. If you do a Forum search, I bet you can find a copy of the list, and most oils that meet the spec say so on the back of the bottle.

RE: Oil question?
Okay...I think that all 502 00 oils are synthetic. Personally, I wouldn't run a non-sythetic in these engines. The correct spec is a 5w-40 and make sure the brand you choose meets the VW/Audi code.
You can get Pentozin online from ECS for a reasonable price.
Cheers!

RE: Oil question?
Not all 502 00 oils are synthetic, and the spec is not exclusively 5w- 40; here's the list.

I personlly use Elf Excellium LDX; it's very good, and my Porsche shop carries it in convenient 5L jugs.
Here's Audi's list, it's dated slightly later - a few changes and additions.

Ignore the last two pages - that's the 505 diesel oils.
