Overheating
 

Can anybody give me advice, I have a 1.8T 1998 A3.

Over the last few days, when i travel on motorway speed the cars overheats,
(the warning light comes on ect.), then i slow down and the needle goes down, But when I travel slow up to 30-40mph or in a traffic jam the temperature is contolled, as the needle goes up a few notches and then down.

Any suggestions?

Hi mate, sounds like its definately your water pump, the exact same thing happened with mine, round about town it wont overheat but on an open stretch because you need more water to cool the engine the blades on the inside of the pump cant generate enough water causing it to overheat, let me know how you get on with it mate!

Hi all. I have another problem for you.

My 1998 A3 is fine when moving but when travelling slowing or sitting in traffic for more than 10 mins or so it starts getting hotter and hotter. I had the thermo/fuseschecked which were OK and the fans seem to be fine too. Just for good measureI had the cam belt change recently but the problem still persists. Any help would be very much appriecated.
