08 A3 Q subwoofer modification
Proud owner of new 08 Lava A3 Q and loving all aspects of my first 150 miles. But, the 5 1/2" subwoofer?... not so much. too weak.
I read here about cutting out the carpet in front of the sub to let it "breathe" and I think that seems like not enough of a fix. I read here about adding 12" subwoofer(s) and extra batteries and thousands of watts, etc. and that seems like it will use up too much trunk and be overkill.
Seems to me that a goldilocks solution would be to replace the existing 5 1/2" with an 8" sub in the same location and let it protrude into the trunk space 5 or 6 inches and have half an enclosure built around it to make it appear somewhat stock.
I wonder if anyone has done anything similar and knows the particulars or why this would or wouldn't be a good idea.
Worrying about amps and costs and warrenties and compatibility and hoping to hear better ideas.
yeah, ima nOOb... be gentle.

RE: 08 A3 Q subwoofer modification
There are a few people who made 'stealth subs' for the old A3that you guys didn't get in the states. I don't know how things look in the latest A3, but check the link out below:

Also a search for 'andymac stealth sub' on google should come up with another solution that looks a little better, and the guy Andy Mac has also made a PDF showing how he did it, with wiring changes to the existing amp etc.
