please help! is my life in danger!
 

after installing the H&R coilovers a few months ago, i realized there was this weird soft clunking sound when turning the steering wheel like something is getting caught. then couple days ago i started getting a creaking sound when slightly turning the steering wheel to the right and back. seems to be coming from the center front of the car right under the gearbox. Read many things about creaking sounds when turning and some are pretty dangerous such as loosing steering! that would suck if im on the highway. H&R says that lowering more than 1.4" you'll need the H&R swaybar im not sure if im that low. anything would be great so that i'll have some idea before i go to the shop. THanks!

Sway bar wouldn't effect steering, not as far as creaking goes. I'd be willing to bet that H&R is recommending a rear sway bar anyways. Get it to a shop, but I don't think the lowering has much to do with it. Been wrong before and I'm not a certified mechanic, so piggyback it on a tow truck if need be. I don't know the first thing about losing steering, so it could feel fine until its gone or it could "start" to go giving you warning, but like you said, I wouldn't chance it. Sorry I don't have more info...

Sounds like your springs were not installed correctly and they are shifting on there cups there for giving you the noise. I would have that looked at first then if it doesnt fix it take it in

hey thanks guys for the help. i took it into a shop that i usually work with and they lift the car up and heard clunking right at the steering rack area when slightly jolting the wheel left and right. its pretty obvious when we lift the car up. sounds like something's loose in there or something. he told me there's a slight leak in the hose and showed me but it shouldnt be causing that noise. any other ideas before i take it to the dealer and have them charge several hundred for a new steering rack?
