fwiw, I got an email from royal motors in SF on 1/31 - doing a one-day 'month end' sale - all 07 A3s at 800 below invoice... this is, though, not an endorsement of royal.

i would like to hear more from everyone about their buying experiences, prices paid, dealer added fees to be wary of, etc..

is the invoice price listed on edmunds correct for an a3 2.0T.. $24,856

the invoice for the one i spec'd out (s-line, tech, cold and rear side airbags) is $29,899 and their TMV is $31,183...

should i be happy if i get to TMV or am i holding out for closer to invoice?

thanks all,

sbp
Edmunds pricing (the TMV quote you got, right?) is what I'm guessing my dealership used. What I observed at my dealership was thateachoption was reduced back to invoice(as options have mark up also).

all in all, i had a really pleasant buying experience...the salesguy i test drove with and eventually bought from was a good guy, knew the car well, not pushy at all...of course, i did 95% of the process via e-mail...there are about 5 audi dealers in the immediate area, so it was fairly easy to drive the price down to what i was comfortable paying...none of them would go under what i ended up paying (600 over edmunds invoice)...

on my second day of e-mailing and trying to get the dealers to drop their price, one of the dealers sent me a pissy email that went something like this: "You asked for $1800 under msrp, and i gave you that...now you're asking for more...i get the feeling you're emailing between dealerships trying to drive the price down...that's not how i do business...thanks anyway"...i thought that was pretty hilarious...needless to say, i didn't buy from him nor would i have even if he had met the price i wanted...

^^The salesman: What a douche^^

Your job is to research the car and how much you'll pay. His job is to sell you a car (preferably one that they already have in stock through Audi Credit). Looks like he failed at his end of the process.

Speaking of email, I thought I had everything set up with my dealer via the Internet also. We agreed on color/options/even the price. I had my credit company lined up and my insurance ready to go. I was prepaired for a pretty easy buying experience as all the variables were accounted for.

Yet, it still took a total of 8 hours over two consecutive days, (the first day we drove home thinking we wouldn't be getting an Audi at all). That time included a fantastic test drive, then it was pure torture after that.

Livermore Audi, hey, the sales and finance guys are da bomb.

Even though dealers will drop their price to lower limits of an reasonable transaction when selling Audi's, there is nothing in it for them to go to low. They will get yelled at big time by their bosses, if they offer too low a deal, unless its for a Audi sitting on the lot for a long time. At least the frustrated saleperson was honest, but could have been more tactful.

BTW odds are on the colts. We shall see who wins! [sm=teetertooter.gif]
