radar detector detectors. Anyone know if the cops use them? VA and DC detectors are illegal
If you live or frequently travel in states that do not allow radar detectors I would strongly recommend getting a stealth system where the detector is installed behind the grill. They cost more, but you won't have something hanging off your windshield screaming "ticket!"

Yep, they use them. All high-end detectors are immune.
so the K40 or V1 should be able to be concealed, eh? sweet!

yeah the k40 is a concealed radar detector. I have used it in Virginia without a problem. I hope this helps. Its not the cheapest thing but it does what its supposed too and I feel confident about it. Also they garantee it for the first year. If you get a ticket with a radar they will pay it.

Invisible to detectors detectors, yes, but you still have to get them out of view Check the stats on the device. It should something about protection from VG-2, VG-4, Spectre, etc. I just checked Valentine 1's site. It says nothing. I'd be surprised if it didn't offer this protection, but you should check first.

update: So I bought the V1, drove 4400 miles cross country. One ticket. in MO. 65 in a 45 or so. V1 did GREAT, but nothing can see around a bend, I shouldn't have been speeding there....so far so good here in CA

V1 no questions asked. I have taken several trips on the turnpike from miami to orlando (disney world)
and have picked off every state trooper except for one that hid behind over pass and was using pop mode.
Not one ticket yet since i purchased it a year ago.

pros: picks up all radars and lasers from long distances
also has direction signals from where the threat is coming from
cons: picks up all those automatic doors in the rest areas wish it had a better filter
that

This is an easy fix, my friend . The V1 offers a programming mode, which lets you enable and disable certain types of radars as well as tweak the sensitivity to each band: http://www.valentine1.com/Lab/MikesLabRpt3.asp

What I've done with mine, since I'm in CA, is put the V1 into A mode (all), and disabled the X band (useless signal in this state) and K band (mostly used by street radars that tell you how fast you're going, and also by freeway traffic monitoring devices). This way I pickup all signals (sans K and X) and have a quiet ride without a ton of beeping and flashing lights.

Disclaimer: For anyone that owns a detector, don't get spoiled by it and rely on only that level of protection. You still need to be on the lookout. Radar detectors are mostly useful on the freeways, but wont save you from cops that like to cruise behind you and capture your speed manually. Be smart and keep an eye out if you plan on speeding.

Wow. Thanks a lot for this! I've been wanting to do exactly this (disable X and K bands) because the motion detectors and traffic monitors are starting to get annoying. I've noticed cops here (CA) only use Ka? I get laser warnings every once and a while but I've never been able to trace them to a cop.
