Rattling Passenger Seat ('97 A3)

On my 3-door 1997 A3, when the front passenger seat is unoccupied, it shakes and rattles on rough roads in a very annoying fashion - particularly the back part of the seat.

I think this is mainly due to the fact that the front seats fold forwards for access to the rear and so aren't as rigid as fixed ones. However, it's not exactly obviously what can be tightened up in terms of wires/nuts in order to help things.

So, I was wondering:

a) Has anyone else experienced this problem?

b) Has anyone come across a cunning solution?

Thanks.

RE: Rattling Passenger Seat ('97 A3)

jex - first off thanks for your help about the air meter / brakes - im still no further on what other switches there are so i think its haynes manual like you say!

i get a similar thing with my seat but not so bad. the one i do get that really winds me up is the creaking when there is a passenger in the seat.

a mate recommended me to a site www.wak-tt.com which is excellent, they have a sort of fix on it which is on page http://www.wak-tt.com/ttseatcreak/ttseatcreak.htm but unfortunately i dont think there is anything about the rattling. the bloke is spot on though, he nearly always mails back the same day and has been really helpful so far

sorry im no hope on the rattle but hopefully this may help if youve got the creak!

thanks, dan

Thanks for the suggestion - a bit of creaking goes on from time to time so I'll give it a go.

Regarding the rattling - think I'm just going to have to spend some time poking around with a set of spanners and seeing what can be tightened up. The door trims rattle occasionally as well - not particularly surprising for an 8 year old car - so I might see what I can do there at the same time.

Watch this space...
