running really cool?

hi guys ive got a 99 a3 sport, its a 1.8 20v non turbo and this is my problem, the car has always run at 90degrees on the temp gauge( as all audis do) but recently its been running cooler at approx 70degrees althogh in traffic it goes up to 90degrees but never above,
I have changed the temp sensor but its still the same, the other thing is that it is running rich and using a fair bit of petrol, anyone got any ideas?????

How do you know it is rich? If the CEL/MIL lamp isn't on then you aren't running that rich. You might have a problem with the thermostat if the engine temp isn't docking at 90 degrees.
