Default sound set up within an a3

hows it going everyone? new to the forum so i thought i would just straight in and ask my newbie type questions!
Im intrested in buying a 98 1.8t audi a3...but while i was riding shotgun i noticed that one of the rear speakers has blown, whenever its turned at least half way it give out terrible distortion...so got me thinking about replacing the whole lot with something with a bit more power....what i wanted to know how big they are> its got a cassete player with the 6 cd changer, is the cassete player a double din system? easy to replace or require an audi specialist to do it?
if anyone has information on any of these questions, that would be greatt
cheers in advance

Do you have the upgraded, read most expensive, Bose system? I believe they are all Bose, and they start with the single disc player, same system with the cd changer, and then the same head unit with the upgraded amps and speakers. I am an audio snob - I own a high end audio store and the even the top line Bose in the A3 I took delivery on yesterday isn't very good. I am pretty sure that Bose eq's the signal being fed to the speakers, which means you can't just upgrade the speakers. I don't want to change the head unit because it is tied into the blue tooth function. There is a device made by JL audio that will actually evaluate and produce the inverse eq curve of the Bose system. There are preamp outputs that feed a power amp. A friend of mine owns a serious car audio shop. He is checking for me to find out exactly how this system is set up and what the options are. I intend to retain the head unit, use the JL box if needed, which won't be necessary if the eq is in the Bose amp, replace the speakers with JL, add a high quality amp to drive them and replace that silly baby Bose sub hidded in the rear. I should have more info next week. I would be happy to share what I find if you are interested. I don't know how much of this carries over to the less expensive Bose system so keep that in mind if that is what you have. I also have the 3.2 S-Line but I don't think that will affect anything other than the fact that the big Bose is standard in that model, which is an 07. Good luck.
