Tires -- Winter's Coming!

I am the very happy owner of a 2008 A3 that I bought Certified Used with 20K miles on it. I'm pushing 27K miles now and the tread-wear bars on the OEM Contis are beginning to show.

I live in northern CT and snow or no snow, I have to be on the road, visiting clients (I cover NJ to ME).

What are your opinions/recommendations regarding winter tires for an A3?

Thanks in advance.

I use Dunlop Wintersport M3's mounted on dedicated winter wheels and love them in the winter. Excellent in snow, rain, and dry with very little, if any, degradation in noise and ride quality. Lifetime of the three sets of Wintersports that I've had (on different cars) has been phenomenal. I haven't worn out a set yet, with five winters each. Bridgestone Blizzaks are probably better in deep snow and downright miraculous on ice, but they don't last as long, and ride/noise were significantly degraded.

Since we don't have much deep snow here in the Pacific NW where I drive, I chose to get them in the stock 225/45-17 size, mounted on the (heavy) OEM wheels. I mounted my summer tires (same size) on significantly lighter wheels, which improves the ride.

If you drive in deep snow, the recommendation is to use a taller, narrower winter tire, like 205/60-16, which still fits over the brakes and has the same overall diameter.

Its better u take an experts advise on this. For such a problem consult a dealer or any body shop.
