Soo im kinda having a dilemma recently. Im trying to decide weather or not i should get the apr chip for my car or repair the paint on the hood of my car. Im trying to limit my spending on the car to around 700 for the summer. Heres the paint story. I recently moved to florida at the end of the summer and i was unaware unaware of how dangerous love bugs were to our paint. As a result i have some serious pit marks on the front of my hood just above the grill. The car is lava gray so these marks against the dark color are VERY noticeable. So for about the same price of a chip i can do the paint job and add a clear bra over the front of the car to further protect the paint on the front of the car. But at the same time i really want to begin moding my car. If it was your car which would you prefer the looks or the performance? ill get some pics of the paint tomorrow. Lemme know what you think?

 

Do the paint first. You don't want to start having any rust marks if it went down to metal. That would just suck. Make the Chip a Christmas or Birthday gift to yourself.

 

Maintenance before modifications. Definitely get to the bodyshop for paintwork first.

 

Yea i was leaning in that direction more than towards the chip. ill still post some pics in the morning. i just keep beating myself up over it the cars less than a year old and i destroyed the paint. Im originally from boston and i had no idea how dangerous bugs left unwashed on a car for 3 days could be.

Sorry to hear about your car; don't beat yourself up over it though, in the grand scheme of things, it could be much worse. I've certainly made worse than $700 mistakes!

Get it painted so that you will forget about your mistake and feel great about your car's appearance again. Then good fortune will smile upon you and you will find a way to get it chipped. Look at it this way too, if money is a bit tight, getting your car chipped is a bit of a bad idea since it will increase your fuel consumption a little (based on the other threads in this forum, strangely my TDI burns less fuel after chipping) but even worse, with a chipped car you probably run a higher risk of getting a ticket for speeding etc etc! Avoid a couple of tickets, and your car is painted 'free.'

And last, smile and enjoy the sunshine in Florida! I moved from Canada to Taiwan, and now, I can't go back....love the warm weather!
